Lakeland Llama Treks are
proud to be able to support
local industry, maintain the
landscape and assist in the
preservation of local breeds.
With the support of
Cameron's Brewery, Lakeland
Llama Treks have begun to manage
the land on the slopes of Scales
Fell using Herdwick Sheep, a
breed made famous by the writer
Beatrix Potter, which has
declined in numbers over recent
years. Through the dedication of
local farmers, the breed still
exists and is valued not only
for its fleece and meat but for
maintaining the landscape
through years of traditionally
grazing specific areas, known as
‘hefting’.
The Llamas are versatile and
provide much more than their
value as a pack-carrying animal.
Their fleece can be clipped,
spun and knitted to make
garments such as jackets,
jumpers, scarves and socks to
name but a few items. A range of
T Shirts and Sweatshirts bearing
the Lakeland Llama Trek logo are
available to prolong your memory
of the experience and are a
talking point for time to come.
Please see our
Llama shop for T
shirts, hats, handbags, key
rings, drinks coasters and
cards.
Both Llama and Herdwick wool
products are available through
‘The Woolclip’, a group of
twelve farming and craft working
women, who combine their skills
in spinning, knitting, dyeing, feltmaking, weaving and sheep
breeding. The Group produce a
range of products for sale at a
shop in Caldbeck and also run
workshops.
Herdwick sheep, meat and
free-range eggs are available
from Robert and Pam Hall at
Fornside Farm, in nearby St.
Johns in the Vale.
